2011-2012 Calendar Set

The 2011-2012 School Calendar has been set and approved by board action on June 21, 2011 at the Regular Board Meeting. Students will return to school on August 24, 2011. The school year will conclude on June 1, 2012.

Bulldog Booster Gym Signs

Our gym hosts a number of 2' X 3' booster signs. They are quite noticeable on the north wall. These signs are hung at an annual cost of $50 per year. The cost and design of the sign are at the expense of the booster. If you would like to support our student-body and  hang a Booster sign in the gym that represents your business or family, please contact Rocky Mountain Sign Works in Ronan at 406-676-7446.

Your design will be placed on a 2' X 3' white aluminum blank. According to Rocky Mountain Sign Works, the cost will run between $50 to $75 dollars for the sign. Signs take approximately one to two weeks for completion. Once you get your sign, bring it in to Jacki Spidel in the High School Office and she will collect your annual fee and see that your sign is hung up accordingly.

Board Workshop: Direction Setting/Strategic Plan

On Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the District Board Room, the School Board invites the public to review and discuss the proposed Strategic Plan Draft for implementation. This plan represents our mega issues and proposed goals for the district over the next five years based on identified needs and ideology.  This is a DIRECTION SETTING instrument. Your input is very valuable. The Board has been working with the Montana School Boards Association (MTSBA) in developing this draft since the beginning of the year. At this time the Strategic Plan Draft represents board work that has been written and translated by the MTSBA from board workshops.

Giving Back

Elementary teacher, Lloyd Phillips recently took the 5th grade class on its annual science field trips to local ecology: forest/Mission Dam, wetlands/Nine Pipes, and river/River Honoring. He submitted the photos and the following description of the events.

"We have been attending these trips for many years.  We have been very fortunate to have some of our former Mission students and Bulldog athletes take time out of their busy work schedules to give presentations to our 5th grade students both in and out of the classroom.  The names of the former students "Giving Back" are Stephanie Trahan Gillin and Devlin LaFrombois.  Steph is a CSKT Wildlife Biologist and Devlin is a Wild-land Fire Specialist.  They are great at working with our youth, and our students not only enjoy these presentations very much, but also gain a tremendous knowledge of our local ecologies.  They are very fortunate to live in this beautiful area and everything that goes with it." State Softball Tournament Site Change

First of all, congratulations to all of the qualifying State participants in Track, Tennis and Softball! I hope the weekend brings you success! Well done, you make our school and community proud!

On a scheduling note, we have had some last minute changes in the State Class B-C Softball Tournament. Below is the correspondence I received from the Montana High School Association Executive Director, Mark Beckman:

Because of the current level of saturation in the Glasgow fields, and in consideration of the weather forecast for the next four days, the State B-C Softball Tournament has been relocated.  Activities Director Willie Thibault and Principal Marj Markle have monitored the conditions closely and have been in communication with the MHSA throughout the last few days.  Although Glasgow remains enthusiastic about hosting this event, Willie, Marj and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce representatives have agreed that it is in the best interest of the players, coaches and fans to relocate.  The new location is Great Falls at the Multi-Sport Complex, and Willie Thibault will continue as Tournament Manager.  The scheduled days of the tournament remain May 26-28, 2011, as previously published.

The tournament will start on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and there will be a coaches meeting at 12:30 p.m. at the Complex.   Brian Michelotti, MHSA Assistant Director will be the MHSA representative at the tournament.  If you have any questions please contact Willie or Brian.

Montana High School Association

I hope everyone is able to get out and support our kids. The Montana A & C State Track Meet is in Missoula at the MCPS Statium at Big Sky High School starting on Friday, 27, 2011. As outlined above the State Softball Tournament will remain on May 26-28, 2011, but in Great Falls.

Montana Youth Government

For the past 26 years, government instructor Tim Biggs has taken students to the Montana YMCA Youth Government program. This year Biggs took 17 students to Helena from May 8th through May 11th. This program provides student with meaningful introduction to the democratic process through a simulation of the governmental process as a senator or representative. Students write bills and present them to get a real-life understanding of how a bill becomes a law. The program started in Montana in 1970 with the first Youth Legislature held in the Spring of 1971. It serves over 300 students today.

Mission students brought home the following accolades:

• Dakota Matt - Majority Whip in the House of Representatives
• Sydney Allard - Gold Medal for Best Bill
• Zane Foster - Gold Medal for Best Bill
• All Boys - Best Dressed Delegation

Board Organization for 2011-2012

Elected members sworn in by County Superintendent.

The St. Ignatius School District #28 had its Board Organizational Meeting on May 10, 2011. New members were sworn in. Re-elected incumbents are Peter Matt, Gene Posivio. New to the board is Marilyn Murchie who replaced John Biggs. Re-elected and new members join Maxine Whitson and Mike Esslinger on the five member board. 

Officer appointments: Maxine Whitson was elected Board Chairman; Gene Posivio Vice Chairman; and Neil Easter was appointed as the District Clerk.
